The Hon. Malcolm Turnbull, MP Prime Minister of Australia
Dear Prime Minister
Hanging Rock, a great Australian icon, is in danger. You have the power to avert this danger by taking a simple and easy action.
After 23 years a new master plan is underway for the Hanging Rock Reserve. However two structures are about to be built in the Reserve, with funding from Regional Development Australia. Their placement will foreclose options for the use of about a quarter of the reserve, including the area with the best view of the Rock. For example this might be the site for a new visitor centre, an oval or passive recreational facilities. Perhaps it is the best place for bush regeneration. Perhaps it should include the new entrance to the whole reserve. However all these options and many others will be lost or limited if these structures are built.
We ask that the construction of the structures be deferred until the master plan is completed and adopted. This can happen if the Federal Minister for Regional Development, the Hon. Fiona Nash, informs the Macedon Ranges Shire Council that the acquittal date for the remaining grant money will be extended for just 12 months to 30th June 2018 if the tender process is deferred until the master plan is adopted.
I therefore urge you to request the Minister for Regional Development, the Hon. Fiona Nash, to publicly make this offer to the Macedon Ranges Shire Council.
